Tropo vs. Elevated Duct:
Standard Tropo: Normal signal enhancement that typically starts at ground level. Radio waves are bent evenly along the Earth's surface, providing good DX conditions (VHF/UHF) over large, continuous areas.
Elevated Duct (Tunnel): Occurs during extreme temperature inversions high up in the atmosphere. It acts like a "fiber-optic cable" for radio waves. This often creates a Skip-zone: Stations in the middle of the path hear nothing because the signal travels high above their heads, while stations where the tunnel starts and ends receive extreme signals (pinpoint DX).
